How Built-In Pallet Automation Improves CNC Machining

Machining automation does not always require a large external system. Some machining centers incorporate pallet automation entirely within the footprint of the machine, creating a compact system capable of running multiple jobs and operations with limited operator intervention.

In this video, manufacturing journalist Peter Zelinski visits Advance CNC Machining to talk with Setup Machinist Peyton Hamilton about the company’s Makino DA300P machining centers and their built-in 40-pallet automation. Peyton explains how this approach supports lights-out machining, reduces interruptions for setup and qualification, and allows one skilled operator to oversee multiple machines.

The discussion also looks at an often-overlooked consideration in automation: movement takes time. Keeping pallets, jobs, and automation close together can minimize non-cutting time and help us get more productive capacity from both its equipment and its skilled team.
